Viettel asked to boost development
PANO – On June 26, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and a delegation of the Government had a working session with the Military Industry-Telecoms Group Viettel on its production and business performance and development strategy.
At the working session, President and Director General of Viettel, Major General Nguyen Manh Hung reported the Group’s achievements to the Prime Minister. At present, Viettel is one of the world’s top 15 “telecoms giants,” serving around 100 million customers. The group has developed new business segments such as telecoms electronic industry, hi-tech weapon industry, cyber security industry, etc.

In terms of revenue, Viettel is the top business in Vietnam. As of 2017, the group raked in VND 252,000 billion, of which the pre-tax profit was VND 44,100 billion. In 2017, the group contributed to the State budget VND 41,100 billion, increasing by 10,000-fold compared to 2000. The average monthly per capita income in 2000 was VND 1.1 million while in 2017 the figure mounted to VND 31.8 million, up by a factor of 29 times.
At the working session, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc highly appreciated the achievements Viettel has made over the past years. He hailed the group for ceaselessly setting higher targets to conquer. He stressed that the success of Viettel had its foundation in its culture, spiritual power and ambitions. He said, “Viettel is an outstanding example for State-owned enterprises. It has proven that the combination of high aims, national aspiration, good staff and strong momentum can help State-owned enterprises to thrive. Vietnam needs more enterprises like Viettel.”
The head of the Government affirmed that the Government and Ministry of National Defense would always provide favorable conditions for Viettel to further develop. In the coming time, the group should focus more on both telecoms and defense industry development. Viettel needs to take the lead in Industry 4.0 and continuously set higher challenges to conquer for more success, protecting the national brand name.
