The information was released by the organizers of the Telecom Asia Awards 2019 on May 22.
Accordingly, Viettel's project, called Hue City Intelligent Operations Center, won the “Most Innovative Smart Cities Project” title at the Telecom Asia Awards 2019.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Thanh Nam, Executive Director of Mytel (Viettel's subsidiary in Myanmar) during the period of 2017-2018, won the category of "Telecom CEO of the Year".
Launched by the Viettel Group, the Thua Thien - Hue Smart City Monitoring and Operation Center has officially been in operation since 2018. The project was developed in line with the province’s practical reality. It was also the highlight of the project recognized by Telecom Asia Awards 2019.
The project is highly appreciated for its flexibility and intelligence, which has improved the quality of public services, bringing convenience to locals and tourists and preserving the historical and cultural characteristics of the province.
Currently, the Smart City Monitoring and Operation Center has been implemented in the three provinces of Thua Thien - Hue, Phu Tho and Thanh Hoa. All of these solutions are offered in conformity with the characteristics and demands of each province, thereby raising the quality of management, administration, transportation, public security, emergency response, traffic safety and data analysis.
Meanwhile, under CEO Nam's leadership, Mytel gained a record 6 million subscribers after 11 months of operations in Myanmar. Mytel has also become the third largest mobile operator in Myanmar in terms of market share. The quality of its 4G network was assessed as the best service in Myanmar.
In addition, Viettel's Keeng Movies was listed in the top four of the Most Innovative Video Services, while another Viettel product, called ViettelPay, was named as one of the four most innovative mobile payment services in Asia.
General Director of Telemor (Viettel's brand in East Timor) Tran Van Bang was honored as one of the four best telecom CEOs in Asia and Australia and New Zealand.
The Telecom Asia Awards, which was started from 1997, is an annual prestigious award in Asia. With the theme of “Redefining the connectivity standards of the digital economy,” the award aims to honor businesses and individuals for their creative telecommunications solutions.
