PANO – The Child Cardiovascular Center at the National Hospital of Pediatrics provided free screening tests for innate heart diseases for 2,483 children below 16 years old in Cao Bang province.
Among the screened children, 36 needed operations while 53 others were detected suffering congenital heart illnesses.
The event was part of the “Hearts for Children” program launched and sponsored by the Military Industry-Telecoms Group Viettel and the Vietnam Television.
Reportedly, since 2008, the program has mobilized over VND 132 billion to pay for life-saving operations for more than 4,500 children suffering from congenital heart defects.
Particularly, the program earmarked VND 15.15 billion to buy modern equipment and hold training courses for medical specialists in seven major cardiovascular hospitals as well as organized 50 drives to check up some 100,000 kids in 45 cities and provinces nationwide for heart diseases.
Currently, the program coordinates with 18 heart centers and hospitals across the country to provide free treatment to disadvantaged congenital heart patients.
