Commencing on May 23, the event attracts 578 athletes from 132 countries and territories. It marks the last chance for the Vietnamese contenders to secure additional Olympic spots after the one by Vo Thi Kim Anh in the 57kg women's category.

Notable among the Vietnamese squad of six men and five women include Nguyen Van Duong (57kg men's category) who competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ha Thi Linh (60kg women's category) the champion of the 32nd SEA Games, and Luu Diem Quynh who won silver at the 19th ASIAD in the 75kg women's category.

As of the evening of May 26, Duong secured passage to the second round after defeating Jean Caicedo of Ecuador with a score of 5-0. Meanwhile, Nguyen Minh Cuong (51kg men's category) also advanced to the round due to a fortunate bye in the first round draw.

As per regulations, a total of 51 tickets to Paris will be awarded after the second qualification tournament. Depending on the draw results, a boxer must win at least four matches to win a ticket.

Female boxers are scheduled to continue their bouts from May 27, with the tournament running until June 2.
