In his opening speech, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city Tran Viet Truong said that the Vietnam - Japan Cultural and Trade Exchange Program was first organized in the city in 2015. This activity not only holds significance for people-to-people exchanges and bilateral cooperation but also reflects the city's desire to contribute to the unity, aspirations, and shared development interests of both Vietnam and Japan.

The government and people of Can Tho city are proud of their continuous efforts to preserve, build, and contribute to the development of the good relationship between Vietnam and Japan.

Regarding local-level relations, Can Tho city has established cooperative relationships with three localities in Japan: Hyogo Prefecture, Okayama and Nasushiobara cities in Tochigi Prefecture. Furthermore, Can Tho city has established relations with six Vietnam - Japan Friendship Associations.

Chairman Tran Viet Truong emphasized the belief that "this year's program will be successful, bringing unique and vibrant cultural experiences to people and expanding cooperation opportunities for business communities of Vietnam and Japan, thus further deepening the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan."

After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's program is organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan. The exchange program will feature many meaningful activities to showcase the cultures and arts of Vietnam and Japan, such as the Vietnamese ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) exhibition; the photo exhibition highlighting the Japanese peace movement to support Vietnam during the resistance war for national independence and freedom; the Vietnamese-Japanese culinary exchanges, and more. In addition, within the framework of the program, 70 booths from Vietnamese and Japanese businesses will introduce visitors to many unique and distinctive products and services.
