PANO – 64 pairs of cows from districts of Vietnam’s An Giang and Kien Giang provinces and Kirivong district of Cambodia’s Takeo province took part in the final round of the 21st open Bay Nui cow race festival at Ta Miet Pagoda in Luong Phi commune, Tri Ton district, An Giang province, on October 14th.

Organised for the first time in 1992, the Bay Nui cow race has become an annual event in the southern provinces of Vietnam, and Cambodian provinces, on the Sen Don Ta celebration.

The winner receives VND 30 million in cash. The organizing panel of the race presented second, third, fourth and consolation prizes to outstanding pairs of cows.

PANO would like to introduce some images of the 21st Bay Nui cow race festival:

Pairs of cows and their owners at Ta Miet Pagoda waiting for opening ceremony
Procession before spectators
Strong pairs of cows being able to reach a speed of 80 km per hour
Dangerous situations do happen in the festival

Thanks to good care and training, many pairs of cows are very strong and run very fast
