Addressing the ceremony, Beatriz Fernandez, the International Licensing Manager of the Guinness World Records said that “This is an impressive community-lead project that has brought together people from all around the world as well as Vietnamese people from all backgrounds, since it started in 2007”.
She happily confirmed with only one section from An Duong Terminal to Tan Ap Terminal on the Yen Phu street, the Hanoi Mural had already an overall surface of 1,570.2 s.q.m, which meant that new Guinness World Record had been set on October 5th in the capital of Hanoi, breaking the record previously set by China (at 1,494.4 s.q.m).
She handed over to journalist-artist, Nguyen Thu Thuy, the artist-leader of the Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural, a certificate recognizing the Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural as the world’s largest.

Also present at the ceremony, Mrs. Katherine Muller Marin, Head of Office UNESCO Hanoi, stressed that the Mural’s designs register a combination of culture, art, history and heritage, raising the awareness of the population and “remind us that heritage belongs to the people”.
“The mural is concrete evidence of social cohesion, community participation and pride. It will continue throughout the years to generate further pride and a sense of belonging for the millions of Hanoi citizens and visitors. This project is also a great example of education through heritage and art”, Mrs. Muller Marin added.
The mural is one of the construction works celebrating the Millennium of Thang Long-Hanoi. According to Mrs. Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Vice-President of Hanoi People’s Committee, the colourful “ceramic road” has replaced the grey concrete wall, beautifying the public space of the Capital. She also highly appreciated the enthusiastic and active participation of international friends and the local citizens, demonstrating their love and friendship for the Capital of Hanoi.
