It focuses on introducing Yakishime, a ceramic technique that fires unglazed wares at high temperatures. Although it is one of the most basic means of producing ceramics, Yakishime has been developed in distinctive directions in Japan.

Meanwhile, the exhibition aims to present an aspect of Japanese culture by studying Yakishime from the earliest examples to contemporary works.

Yakishime, dated back to the fourth or fifth century, became a substantial component of the output for major ceramic centers in Japan, such as Bizen, Shigaraki, and Tokoname from the 12th to 17th century.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Doi Katsuma, Director of the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, shared that the year 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties, hoping that through Yakishime ceramic products, Vietnamese people would know more about the diversity and creativity of Japanese culture.

The exhibition will run until April 20.
