A document on “the Ly dynasty’s descendants in the Republic of Korea (RoK)” compiled by a resident in the northern province of Bac Ninh is expected to be released on the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
The document provides information on the generations following the Ly dynasty’s prince Ly Long Tuong, the seventh son of Emperor Ly Anh Tong and his consort Le My Nga, who fled to Koryo (near Pusan) to avoid bloodshed in 1226.
According to the chronicler Duy Khoat, Ly Xuong Can, the 26th descendant of Ly Long Tuong and the 31st descendant of King Ly Thai To, paid floral tribute to his ancestors at the Do Temple in Bac Ninh province in 1994. Six months later, he joined the Vietnam-RoK culture and friendship association’s delegation to burn incense sticks at the temple.
In March 1995, 48 descendants of the Ly dynastic line in the RoK visited Bac Ninh province for the Do temple festival of the 15th day of the third lunar month.
Ly Tuong Hiep, Head of the Ly family in the RoK, presented his family records highlighting Ly Long Tuong’s significant contributions to the RoK in repelling Mongol invasions.
Ly Xuong Can and his family returned to Hanoi in 2000, said the document.
Also according to the document, President of the RoK’s Goldenbridge financial conglomerate Ly Tuong Tuan visited Vietnam to pay a floral tribute to his ancestors at the Do Temple in Bac Ninh province in 2003 and opened a representative office in Hanoi in 2006. He was honoured as one of the biggest Asian donors in 2008. Now there are more than 4,000 people of the Ly family in the RoK.
