According to Vice President of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Nguyen Duy Cuong, the event aims to introduce paintings and poems of Cuban authors to Vietnamese people, thus increasing Vietnamese people’s understanding of the land, culture and people of Cuba as well as the friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

Cuong said that Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez is one of the five anti-terrorism heroes of Cuba. In the jail, he composed poems and painted. He has published five collections of poems, many of which were translated into many languages, including the “The truth names me” collection.

He has also organized 13 painting exhibitions with various themes, including the “Cuban identity though butterflies’ image” which features 12 paintings of some typical butterflies of Cuba.

Addressing the event, Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez said that thanks to the Vietnam-Cuba friendship and solidarity founded by Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro, he has a chance to introduce his art works in Vietnam.

He said that painting butterflies reminds him of his childhood and butterflies he saw on Santa Maria beach, which makes he feel free and full of love for his country and people. Butterflies have also inspired many artists of Cuba, he added.
