The event is part of the activities within the framework of the fourth “Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship and People-to-People Cooperation Meeting” held in Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnamese and Cambodian delegations were led by Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Mao and Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Sam An, who is also Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, respectively.

Delivering a presentation at the talk, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association Vu Vuong Viet shared that since the signing of the agreement between the two associations in 2015, the Vietnamese association has strengthened dissemination of the Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity in various forms and boosted humanitarian aid for needy Cambodian people. Chapters of the association at localities have also actively cooperated with Cambodian counterparts to support the search and repatriation of fallen Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists who sacrificed themselves while doing international services in Cambodia, and the embellishment of the monuments of fallen Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Cambodia.

Affiliate associations have also launched support movements for Cambodian students in Vietnam. Delegation exchanges have been implemented seriously and effectively. At present, affiliate associations have been established in 37 provinces and cities and in 10 former volunteer soldiers and specialists units. A number of affiliate associations in border provinces and Ho Chi Minh City have taken part in friendship activities held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the Solidarity Front for Development of the Cambodian Motherland.

On behalf of the Cambodian delegation, Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Chap Sotharith added that the number of shared activities of the two associations has increased. There have been more exchanges at the central and local levels to enhance experience exchange. The Vietnamese side has supported Cambodia extensively in helping needy people and victims of natural disasters and in building infrastructure for a number of localities.

At the talk, representatives of the youth union leaderships of the two countries also affirmed that cooperation activities of Vietnamese and Cambodian youths have been carried out in various fields, with more focus on education of the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Delegates at the talk suggested that in the coming time the two associations should well organize the 40th anniversary of the victory over the Pol Pot regime (January 7, 1979 - 2019). The Vietnamese side should continue boosting charity activities helping Cambodian people, mobilize support for the operation of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, continue to enhance people-to-people exchange and educate younger generations of the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Closing the talk, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association Men Sam An highly appreciated all opinions and affirmed that having gone through considerable hardships in past, the two peoples would enhance solidarity and cooperation in various fields, contributing to building the borderline of peace and cooperation.

Chairwoman Men Sam An highly valued the activities of the two associations over the past time and hoped that affiliate associations from the central to the local levels should continue strengthening solidarity and cooperation, fighting against wrongful argument as an attempt to sabotage the Vietnam-Cambodia traditional friendship. She affirmed that the people of Cambodia would never forget the sacrifice of the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and specialists in their combat against the genocidal regime of the Khmer Rouge. She thanked the Party, State and people of Vietnam for helping consolidate the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship via various activities.

At the end of the meeting, the two associations signed a joint minute of the joint session.
