Welcoming the visiting official, PM Phuc said the success of the ninth meeting will be an important contribution to the results-oriented development of the countries’ comprehensive cooperative partnership.

He congratulated Myanmar on its recent socio-economic achievements, affirming that Vietnam always supports the country’s efforts to promote the national peace and reconciliation process.

Minister U Kyaw Tin highlighted the thriving bilateral relationship, which was set up in 1975 and has been unceasingly enhanced through mutual high-ranking visits.

Economic, trade, and investment ties are also flourishing and have much room to expand, he said, noting that the countries’ leaders set the bilateral trade target at 1 billion USD in 2020.

The official also congratulated Vietnam on its major economic attainments and the successful organisation of the second summit between the US and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, thus actively contributing to global peace and stability.

At the meeting, PM Phuc asked both sides to bolster partnerships in economy, trade, and investment because there remains much potential and many cooperation opportunities.

They need better mechanisms to promote cooperation for common development, he added.

He affirmed Vietnam’s continued support for Myanmar at multilateral forums and called for further coordination, especially as Vietnam holds the ASEAN Chair in 2020 and is running for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council for 2020-2021.

The PM also voiced his hope that Minister U Kyaw Tin will keep making contributions to relations between the two countries, as well as among ASEAN member states.
