The report on September 27 noted that by the end of June 2017, the country is home to 5.61 million people, a slight increase from the figure of 5.6 million in the previous year. Of the number, citizens and permanent residents only increased by 32,200 to 3.96 million people.


According to the NPTD, there were 1.64 million international students and people granted work permits in Singapore in 2017, down 1.6 percent year-on-year.

A population survey showed that Singapore’s total fertility rate fell from 1.24 percent in 2015 to 1.2 percent in 2016 and stood at 0.98 percent this year.
