With that concern, a group of youths from Hanoi University conducted a scientific research project titled “Developing tourism products in the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.”

The group includes Pham Bich Thao as the project leader, Luong Thi Thuy Trang, and Thieu Thuy Linh who just graduated from the university in 2021 and Dang Thi Ngoc Anh and Mai Thanh Thuy, being currently final year students at the Faculty of Business and Tourism Administration.

With that concern, a group of youths from Hanoi University conducted a scientific research project titled “Developing tourism products in the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long.”

According to Pham Bich Thao, “Hanoi is beautiful for its ancient look and history. Therefore, the capital has a lot of potential in tourism development. However, if the such relics as Temple of Literature and Quoc Tu Giam (first national university of Vietnam) and Hoa Lo prison have staged many activities to attract tourists, then it seems that Thang Long Imperial Citadel is still a ‘hidden’ charm.”

The group then spent a year doing research on the citadel by surveying 250 Vietnamese and international tourists, 100 students and 50 high school students, and tourism experts and interviewing tour guides.

Many of the samples answered that they came to the citadel mainly for taking photos rather than discovering the historical values of this heritage. The research team found that the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long needs to develop more attractive tourism products.

The research team, therefore, has come up with 4 ideas to improve experiences of tourists when visiting the imperial citadel. They are “Exploring the imperial citadel’s secret,” “Recreating court rituals,” “Night exploration” and “Vietnamese clothes.” Those are products based on the need and desires of tourists who wish to keep their memories in a special way when visiting the site.

Hanoi University awarded the group the first prize for their research project in 2021. Hopefully the contribution to tourism and historical preservation of the group in particular and youths in general will help promote tourism of the capital in coming time.
