Trekking through forest to reach emerald waters
Reaching E Cave requires a trek through the natural forests of Sinh Ton valley. Although the route is not particularly long, it traverses a variety of terrain, including dirt trails, sharp limestone outcrops, small streams, and dense tropical forest. Before setting out, all participants receive safety briefings, equipment instructions, and guidance on trekking techniques to ensure a safe journey.
After hiking through the forest, the entrance to E Cave gradually emerges beneath towering limestone cliffs. On clear days, visitors can even see the rocky bottom near the cave's entrance through the crystal-clear water.

Also known as Water Palace cave, E Cave is part of the Sinh Ton valley adventure tour. It is an active river cave through which an underground stream continues to flow. Visitors can either swim or explore deeper into the cave on a stand-up paddleboard under the guidance and supervision of trained safety personnel.
Nguyen Minh Ha, a visitor from Hanoi experiencing the tour for the first time, said the highlight was not only the vivid color of the water but also the sensation of paddleboarding in a space almost completely isolated from the outside world. The cave was incredibly quiet, every stroke of the paddle echoed clearly. It was unlike any cave destination she had visited before.
As visitors venture farther inside, the temperature gradually drops and the air becomes cooler and more humid. Headlamps illuminate the cave walls, revealing layers of rock, geological fractures, and an array of stalactites and stalagmites in remarkable shapes. At several locations on the cave ceiling and walls, guides introduce visitors to fossil traces preserved within limestone formations that date back hundreds of millions of years.
Under the glow of headlamps, the crystal-clear water reflects onto the cave's vaulted ceilings, creating a dazzling, almost magical atmosphere. For this reason, many visitors describe E Cave as a hidden "crystal palace" tucked away amid the majestic mountains and forests of Phong Nha - Ke Bang.
Adventure rooted in conservation
Do Quang Anh, a tour guide from Moc Nam Investment Joint Stock Company (Moc Nam Adventure), explained that what makes E Cave unique is the combination of forest trekking and exploration of an active river cave. However, this is not a mass tourism destination. Visitors are required to strictly follow the instructions of the tour leader. Before entering the water, they inspect life jackets, helmets, headlamps, and instruct guests on how to use SUPs. The distance covered inside the cave is adjusted according to weather conditions, water levels, and the physical fitness of each group. In the event of heavy rain, rising water, or any unsafe conditions, the activity will be shortened or suspended.

According to Quang Anh, visitors are also required to remain with the group at all times, refrain from touching or damaging stalactites, avoid littering, and keep noise to a minimum. Throughout the forest trek, guides introduce visitors to the area's unique ecosystem while reminding them not to disturb wildlife or interfere with the natural environment.
E Cave can be explored throughout much of the year, although the dry season generally offers the best conditions, with less slippery forest trails, stable water levels, and exceptional water clarity. During the rainy season, tour schedules depend heavily on weather conditions and safety assessments conducted by the operating company.
