The drive is expected to collect more blood units for treatment

The campaign aims to collect more blood for the institute as the number of blood donors has been down in recent times for fear of COVID-19 and hospitals are facing a shortage of blood for treatment. At present, the institute is storing nearly 8,000 units of blood while each day it and other hospitals need some 1,000 units of blood for treatment.

At the launching ceremony, Permanent Secretary of the VYF Central Committee Nguyen Anh Tuan called on the federation members to join the drive, contributing to easing the shortage of blood supplies during the combat against COVID-19.

The federation also urged its affiliates to launch similar drives during a one-month period starting April 19, during which health regulations should be observed to ensure health and safety for the participants.

Right after the launching ceremony the participants, including popular artists, donated blood.

To avoid COVID-19 infection, donors are urged to register to donate blood at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion’s website www.vienhuyethoc.vn.
