A member of La Me Xanh club offers gift to a child patient at a hospital in Hanoi

Hundreds of students in Hanoi and surrounding localities voluntarily join the La Me Xanh (Green Tamarind Leaf) Club to do charitable job to help poor child patients at hospitals every week.

During days of weekends, they come in groups to local hospitals in Hanoi, cook rice gruels and deliver to poor children patients, especially those who are stricken with financial difficulties.

The club, founded in 2009 with the intention of inviting people on social networks to join their forum at website http://lamexanh.vn, has well-developed and attracted a large number of members across the country.

Two founders of the club, Hoang Dung Tuan and his wife Hoang Hong Chau, also lead other members to give gifts and donate blood.

Tuan is a 50-year-old army officer and his wife Chau is a teacher at Huy Van secondary school in Hanoi.

These two leaders have never been absent from any trip to hospitals at weekends.

Their devotion to charitable activities is a great encouragement to other club members as well as their children. The number of regular club members now has reached nearly 300.

“On seeing the little boys and girls struggling against the pain and illness bravely, anyone will be moved to know that these innocent children will die at an early age because of cancer,” Tuan said.

“That was the reason why my wife and I decided to develop Green Tamarind Leaf club into a charitable organization. With the approval of the hospital authorities, we cook rice soup and give ill children.”

In addition to the rice soup cooking activity at weekends, Green Tamarind Leaf club has organized trips to raise funds to help elderly people, physically-challenging children and flood victims…

On May 8th, 2011, Green Tamarind Leaf club will organize a voluntary blood donation at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. About 100 members have so far registered to take part.
