First aid given to the Chinese sailor

At 19:15 on October 12, the center received news that a sailor, Zhang Linzhi, born in 1965, a Chinese national, on board ship Grandway Star of Panama, was suffering severe injuries due to an accident and was in a coma. The ship, on its way from Thailand to Quy Nhon city in Binh Dinh province of Vietnam, was some 110 nautical miles off Vung Tau city, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, and was compelled to send a mayday signal.

Upon receiving the news, the center contacted and instructed the ship to give first aid to the distressed crewman. It also requested the ship to head for Con Dao district in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province while sending an on-duty ship, SAR 272, at that time in Con Dao, to the rescue.

Despite low pressure situation in the East Sea (South China Sea), causing rainstorms, whirlwinds and heavy rains, ship SAR 272 could still get close to the ship at 00:24 on October 13, and gave first aid to the injured man.

At 02:18 on the same day, it successfully took the wounded sailor to Ben Dam port in Con Dao district for hospitalization and to receive further treatment.
