On January 17, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, member of the Politburo, and leaders of Ben Tre province visited and extended Tet greetings to officers and soldiers of the Ben Tre Provincial Military Command. The NA Chairwoman also encouraged them to overcome difficulties to join hands with the provincial leaders to successfully accomplish socio-economic development tasks and ensure security in the locality.

On the same day, the Chairwoman also inquired after and extended greetings to Huynh Van Hai, bishop of Vinh Long diocese; and visiting Luong Quoi Coconut Processing Company in An Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district.
In Giong Trom district, the Chairwoman attended a hand-over ceremony of four primary schools, two medical centers, nine rural road and bridge projects, and 100 gratitude houses to the poor. The Chairwoman highly valued VietinBank for its charitable activities in the country in general and in Ben Tre in particular. The Chairwoman cut ribbons to inaugurate a medical center in Hung Nhuong district, Ben Tre province. She also presented gifts to some poor households in the area.
* On January 17, National Assembly Permanent Deputy Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong, member of the Politburo, and a delegation of the National Assembly and the Vietnam Red Cross visited and presented gifts to the beneficiary, the poor, and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in Dong Vuong and Dong Tien communes, Yen The district, Bac Giang province. On this occasion, the Deputy Chairwoman also visited and extended Tet greetings to doctors and patients at Bac Giang Oncology Hospital.
* Head of the Central Commission of Education and Communication Vo Van Thuong, member of the Politburo and secretary of the Party Central Committee, on January 17th, visited scientists and artists in Hanoi. Speaking with Professor Phan Huy Le and People’s Artist Chu Thuy Quynh, Vo Van Thuong stressed that the Party and State always acknowledge and highly value the contributions of the intellectual, writers, and artists to the revolutionary cause. Vo Van Thuong also congratulated Prof. Phan Huy Le on his recent noble Ho Chi Minh award for his research “Vietnamese history and culture – a segmental approach”.
*On January 17, Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese heroic mothers, disadvantageous children, and poor families in Gia Lai province. At the Gia Lai Social Protection Center, the Vice President highly valued its efforts on caring for more than 1,200 old people and orphans over the last 20 years. She hoped that the center’s staff would continue to promote this humanitarian work to help the children grown up properly. On this occasion, the Vietnam Children Protection Fund granted 100 scholarships, worth VND 100 million, to the children who are studying at the center. On the same day, the Vice President also met with ethnic people in Ia Phi commune, Chu Pah district, Gia Lai province.
* On January 17, Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, visited and extended Tet greetings to Vietnamese heroic mothers in Vinh Huu commune, Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province. The general stressed that the Vietnam People’s Army and people will never forget their contributions to and sacrifices for the country. The general also hoped that the local authorities would always pay special attention to caring for national contributors, beautifying the national tradition.
* From January 15 to 16, a delegation led by Hau A Lenh, member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Chief of the Northwest Steering Committee, and leaders of Lao Cai province visited and presented Tet gifts to people in Ban Lau, Nham Chay commune, Muong Khuong district, and A Mu Sung, Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district. The delegation handed over 400 gifts to local people and border soldiers.
On January 16, the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, in cooperation with the Hai Phong Deputies to the National Assembly Group and Thien Tam Fund under the Vingroup, presented 500 gifts to the poor in the city to help them to have a happy Tet.
* On January 16, at Dap Da ward, An Nhon town, Binh Dinh province, the FLC Group, in cooperation with the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Binh Dinh, handed over 100 female calves, worth VND 1.6 billion, and 50 saving books, worth VND 175 million, to the poor and former volunteer youths in the province.
* On January 16, in Mo Rai commune, Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province, the Sa Thay Women Union worked with Ya Lan Border Post and local authorities to present a house to Y Senh’s family in Xop village. The construction cost of the 63-sq.m. house, VND 130 million, was donated by local businesses and individuals.
* Hau Giang province organized an artistic program on January 16 to raise scholarships and gifts for disadvantageous children in the province. Accordingly, the organizing board presented 600 scholarships, worth VND 1 million each, and 600 gifts to the children. Moreover, the province also praised 20 students who had won prizes in national contests.
* On January 16, Nha Trang University and local businesses launched a program to help students in five central provinces to get free coach tickets home during the Tet. Accordingly, 320 disadvantaged students whose families were seriously influenced by floods in Quang Ngai, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Da Nang were supported.
