The Siam Cement Group (SCG), one of the leading business groups in ASEAN, has donated USD 620,000 to a project to upgrade a centre for children with disabilities in the Southern Province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
Started in June, 2008, the project is expected to be completed in August 2009. The province’s Education and Training Department will also take part in the project.
According to the project’s guidelines, the group will build and repair facilities in the centre and upgrade the water, electricity and lighting systems, as well as the playing ground among others.
“This upgrading will not only benefit children and people in the area”, said Truong Thi Xuan Liem, Head of the Centre.
The project is one of many programs launched by the group. For example, the group has also presented over 350 scholarships, worth VND 700 million, to pupils in seven Southern Provinces, presented USD 100,000 to storm victims in the Central Region.
In Vietnam, the group has set up four representative offices and seven companies in some provinces.
