Speaking at the ceremony, PM Phuc congratulated the school on achievements it has recorded over the past 60 years, and lauded its efforts in renovating teaching and learning methods.

The Party and State always pay attention to education and training, he affirmed, noting his hope that the sector, including the Son Tay High School, will contribute more to national construction.
Apart from official subjects, the school should place more importance on teaching morals, lifestyle and life skills, thus promoting comprehensive development of students, PM Phuc said.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan joined teachers and students of the Thap Muoi High School in Thap Muoi district, the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap, in a ceremony starting the 2019-2020 academic year on September 5.
At the event, participants listened to a letter by Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong on the new academic year.
Chairwoman Ngan said she hopes teachers and students will make unceasing efforts to fulfill tasks for the year and obtain new achievements, thereby helping to equip younger generations – the future masters of Vietnam – with comprehensive knowledge and skills so that they can adequately contribute to the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and integration into the world.

Following late President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings, the Party and State have attached utmost importance to education and included it in the country’s human development strategy, she stressed.
The parliament leader asked the sector to press on with realising the Party and State’s policies on reforming the management and promoting the quality of education, including ethics and life skill education, thereby creating high-quality human resources for the country.
Ngan also expressed her hope that in the new school year, students nationwide will make efforts in learning and self-improvement so as to help turn Vietnam into a strong and prosperous nation that comparable to other countries around the world like what late President Ho Chi Minh aspired.
She also called on Party committees, authorities, socio-economic organisations and people of all strata to join hands in promoting education.
Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh participated in the ceremony at the Hoang Hoa Tham Primary School in Thanh Hoa city, the central province of Thanh Hoa.
Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission Vo Van Thuong came to share the new school year’s joy with teachers and students of the Chu Van An Secondary School in Ngo Quyen district, the northern city of Hai Phong.

Meanwhile, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue beat the drum to kick off the 2019-2020 academic year at the Ly Nam De Primary School in Hung Ha district, the northern province of Thai Binh.
The ceremony at the Hung Vuong High School in Viet Tri city, the northern province of Phu Tho, saw the presence of Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh.
Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh took part in the celebration at the Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Nam Dinh city, the northern province of Nam Dinh.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam joined teachers and students of the Le Van Tam Primary School in District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City in a ceremony to start the new academic year.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, representatives of the Government Office and the Ministry of Education and Training, and leaders of Bac Giang province joined teachers and students of Thang Town Primary School in Hiep Hoa district at the school year beginning ceremony.

Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong was also present at a similar ceremony of Hoang Van Thu High School in Yen Bai province.
President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man attended the ceremony of Da Bac Boarding Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minority Students in Hoa Binh province.
On this occasion, he handed over 15 gift packages worth 30 million VND (1,290 USD) to poor students with outstanding academic achievements and five guitars to the school.
More than 24 million students across the country began the 2019-2020 academic year following brief ceremonies on September 5.
Almost all educational establishments nationwide removed the balloons from their traditions in response to the ‘say no to plastic waste’ campaign.
The ceremonies, however, went on as usual with saluting the national flag, singing the national anthem, reading the State President’s letter on the occasion, beating the drum, and a series of musical performances and sport events.
According to estimates from the Ministry of Education and Training, this new academic year welcomes over 5.5 million kindergarteners, more than 17 million primary, secondary, and high school students, as well as over 1.5 million undergraduates.
The education sector will continue applying measures to fulfill its goals set for 2016 – 2020 and address pressing issues that have caused public concern.
