The National Hospital of Paediatrics has successfully performed a marrow transplant on a 15-year-old-girl, the second operation of its kind in Viet Nam.
Truong Thi Ninh, from Mong Cai district of northern coastal Quang Ninh province, received stem cells from her nine-year-old brother Truong Cao Che.
Both the patient and the donor regained consciousness after the seven-hour transplant on Nov. 19. The donor's stem cell concentration and quantity met requirements, said the surgeons.
The hospital conducted the first marrow transplant on the seven-year-old boy Dang Gia Hung on August 10. Hung, who received a part of marrow from his sister, has since recovered and is back to normal life.
