The Ministry of Health has decided to allocate VND30 billion to a project on researching medicines and detoxification methods to cure drug addicts.

The project, to be implemented until 2010, will test and put into use new medicines and treatment methods at detoxification establishments. Under the project, a pilot model on community-based detoxification will be carried out, using proper medicines and methods.

In addition, the project will continue with research on support treatment and relapse prevention.

Treatment centres nationwide currently accommodate more than 45,000 drug addicts.
