The Ministry of Health has sent a working team to central provinces to help them deal with the damage caused by storm Lekima. Hospitals and medical clinics are currently standing by to receive storm and flood victims.
By 11pm on October 4, Storm Lekima had slammed into central Quang Binh province, leaving 60 people injured and destroying hundreds of houses. The province is now using every effort to overcome the consequences of the natural disaster and stabilise local people’s lives.
In Quang Trach and Tuyen Hoa districts alone 13 people were injured, 4,200 houses collapsed and 2,150 houses near rivers were submerged.
Ho Thanh Ngoc, vice chairman of the Tuyen Hoa district people’s committee said 300 provincial soldiers and 174 local militia troops have helped residents repair houses and schools and clear the environment. Various organisations provided food and medicine to families in difficulty and the Quang Binh provincial Red Cross spent VND1 billion on buying food, clean water, blankets and mosquito nets for the victims.
Nghia Dan, Que Phong and Quy Chau districts in central Nghe An province were also flooded.
The Ministry of Health on October 4 sent a working group to central provinces to assess losses and direct work to overcome the storm damage. The provincial Department of Health also sent medical teams to many areas.
Storm Lekima slammed into central Quang Binh and Ha Tinh provinces, causing gale force winds of 6 – 7 from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh provinces and 9-10 in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh. After travelling further inland, the storm weakened into a tropical low pressure. However, central provinces have been warned of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides.
