Vietnam supports the non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), said Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defence.
General Vinh affirmed this while receiving Thomas Countryman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Political-Military Affairs of the US, in Hanoi on October 20.
Mr. Countryman briefed his host on bilateral and regional cooperation on non-proliferation of WMD prior to the East Asia Summit scheduled to take place in Indonesia in November.
Lt. Gen. Vinh voiced Vietnam’s support for the Proliferation Security Initiative and said the reduction of such weapons will bring about peace to Vietnam, as well as help boost Vietnam-US relations.
The General highlighted Mr Countryman’s visit, saying it will boost defence ties between Vietnam and the US.
