Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the southernmost province of Ca Mau to develop shrimp farming on the industrial scale on at least 20,000 hectares of water surface to tap its fishery potential.

The Government leader also told provincial leaders, during his visit on August 17, to intensify investment in the transport infrastructure and irrigation network to ensure sustainable agricultural development

“Ca Mau should focus on education and healthcare as well as speed up the current slow pace of capital disbursements,” Dung emphasised.

He pledged to consider the province’s proposals and make final decisions as soon as possible to help it overcome difficulties.

The Government leader also called in the Ca Mau Gas, Electricity and Fertiliser Industrial Zone.

“The two power plants have made a considerable contribution to the national energy strategy and helped the nation overcome a power shortage in recent time,” he said.

He called for greater efforts to be made to speed up the construction of the nitrogenous fertiliser factory, as well as give care to the social welfare of the local population.

The Prime Minister urged the project investor, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, commonly known as PetroVietnam, to pay attention to promoting employment, especially for those young people of working age from over 220 families displaced by the project.
