Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member, a member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Information and Education, attended the meeting.

According to a report by the VJA’s Permanent Vice-President Ho Quang Loi, the association’s positive changes contributed to improving the position, role and efficiency of a socio-political organization of the press like the VJA.

So far, the VJA has had 287 affiliates with 22,801 members, including 3,189 new members admitted last year.

Particularly, the association well performed its presidency of the Confederation of ASEAN Journalists (CAJ) with diverse activities which received high appreciation from domestic and regional press agencies. The association successfully handed over the presidency to the Thai Journalists’ Association this January.

In his speech, Thuong spoke highly of the effective contributions of the press and the VJA over the past year. He highlighted that the association strictly followed the Party’s and State’s leadership, realized the direction and information orientations from the Party and State, promptly and comprehensively reflected socio-economic and political life in the country and the world and well performed their role as a reliable forum for the people.

Thuong also highly valued press agencies for their articles on new elements, role models in different fields, achievements during the national renewal process as well as their combat against corruption, wastefulness, bureaucracy, and social bad aspects.

The press was also hailed for bringing into full play people’s ownership and for consolidating people’s trust in the Party and the State as well as orienting public opinion.

On the occasion, the VJA rewarded groups and individuals with good task performance.
