The People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Tri has approved an anti-flood project for Hai Lang district’s depression.

The nearly VND 273 billion project aims to build, upgrade and repair a 48 kilometre long dyke and many other anti-flood works.

The objectives of the project are anti-flood prevention and mitigation of the impact of natural disasters on locals’ lives and property, infrastructure and environment in 12 communes including Hai Duong, Hai Que, Hai Ba, Hai Thanh, Hai Vinh, Hai Tan, Hai Hoa, Hai Thien, Hai Tho, Hai Truong, Hai Son and Hai Chanh.

For the immediate, in 2008, over VND 31 billion is provided for repairing and upgrading the damaged dyke portions of the O Giang river dyke system.

These works are scheduled to be completed before the storm season this year in order to make contribution to anti-early flood for 2.731 hectares of rice cultivation land in Hai Lang district.
