Vice Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development To Quoc Nam said urgent repairs, worth nearly VND 2 billion (USD 90,000) has been made to the six dyke sections to ensure safety for local residents and agricultural production and aquaculture farming.
The locality has allocated over VND 30 billion (USD 1.35 million) this year to repair 1,500 meters prone to landslides of the western sea dyke.
The 120km-long dyke stretching along the western coastline through Phu Tan, U Minh and Tran Van Thoi districts in Ca Mau province to Kien Giang province plays a significant role in transportation, saltwater intrusion prevention and national security.
The Government has approved plans to upgrade and repair the dyke with a total budget of VND 1.3 trillion (USD 62 million).
