PANO – The Red Sunday 2012 program took place in Hanoi on January 8th with the participation of thousands of students from 63 local universities and colleges.
The meaningful program, organised by the Central Blood Transfusion and Haematology Institute, in association with the Tienphong Newspaper and other organisations, aims to call on everyone to donate blood to save lives and ease blood shortage in hospitals.
In Vietnam, hospitals need about 4,500 blood units per day for first aid and treatment. However, the blood bank only meets 30-40 per cent of this demand in normal days and 10-15 per cent during Tet festivals. At present, blood shortages pose a big problem, said Doan Cong Huynh, Editor-in-Chief of the Tienphong Newspaper.
At the end of the day, the organising board received about 350 blood units from blood donors.
