The statement was underlined by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, at a closing ceremony for the first Overseas Vietnamese Economic Forum (OVECOF 2019) in Incheon, the Republic of Korea (RoK), on June 8.

At the forum, 33 Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese enterprises, Vietnamese and RoK companies, and overseas Vietnamese and RoK firms were signed. Notably, the participants inked several contracts worth totally USD 10 million.

It is expected to see more business deals to be reached after the forum.

Previously on the same day, the participants attended three meetings within the OVECOF 2019 framework. They focused on the application of high technologies to agriculture with the aim of promoting productivity and farmers’ incomes, responding to climate change, and reducing greenhouse effects; creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese abroad to invest in the country and develop their businesses, particularly in trade, tourism, and services; and the possible establishment of an overseas Vietnamese startup fund (OVSF) to assist overseas Vietnamese businesses in running startup projects in Vietnam.

Chairman of the Vietnam Business Association in the RoK (VIBAK) Tran Hai Linh said that about 50 questions were raised by the participants to experts and managers from relevant ministries and sectors during the forum. The organizing panel will summarize proposals of the delegates to submit to functional bodies at home for consideration.

On this occasion, Mr. Tu Thanh Hue, Head of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s Committee for External Affairs and Overseas Vietnamese, handed over the VFF’s certificates of merit to the Business Association of Overseas Vietnamese and the VIBAK – the two co-organizers of the forum.

The OVECOF 2019 took place in the RoK on June 7 and 8. It offered an opportunity to boost trade links among Vietnamese businesses at home and abroad and RoK companies.
