Members of Mine Action Center 16 conduct clearance of UXO. |
The center is currently conducting phase 2 of the UXO clearance at Nhan Ca bauxite mining area in Nhan Co and Kien Duc communes, Lam Dong province, covering more than 100 hectares. The site contains a high concentration of wartime explosive remnants, while land clearance is urgently needed to support industrial production.
To meet the deadline, the unit has carried out detailed surveys, divided the site into suitable work zones, strictly followed technical procedures, and made effective use of specialized equipment. These measures have helped accelerate progress while ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment.

Each stage of the clearance process is carried out with caution and precision, ensuring absolute safety. |
Colonel Phan Dang Tuong, Director of Mine Action Center 16, said the unit always places safety first, especially in projects involving difficult terrain and potential hazards. At the same time, it develops scientific work plans, manages operations flexibly, maximizes available manpower and equipment, and maintains strict inspection and supervision to ensure every square meter meets safety standards.
Operating under the motto, “Safe, cautious, compliant with technical procedures, leaving no mines or explosives behind,” the center has so far cleared 198 out of 320 hectares across key projects in the Central Highlands and Southeastern regions. These include collector roads and overpasses along the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh section of the western North–South Expressway, as well as the Binh Phuoc alumina processing project.
The clearance work has helped remove safety threats from wartime explosive remnants, restore land for development, and keep major projects on schedule.
Nguyen Van Hung, a resident of Kien Duc commune, said local people had long felt unsafe working or traveling in uncleared areas. Since the center began operations, the land has been made safe, allowing residents to farm with confidence, improve livelihoods, and stabilize their lives.
