From the “zero-VND booth” to production support, road repairs, and disease prevention, all activities aim to improve locals’ living standards and consolidate military-civilian ties.
Bringing love to every family
In mid-July, the yard of the Giang Chau village’s Cultural House (Quang Tan commune, Lam Dong province) bustled as H’mong locals gathered for the “zero-VND booth.” Clothes, storybooks, and school supplies were neatly arranged and given away for free. Adults found suitable clothing, while children picked out new books and backpacks for the up-coming academic year. These gifts embodied the troops’ affection and sharing for disadvantaged locals.

On this occasion, the unit also visited and presented gifts to 30 policy and national contributors’ families, totaling over VND 20 million. In addition, they provided VND 100 million to repair the house of Non-commissioned Senior Captain Nguyen Thi Vuon, an employee of Hoa Sim Kindergarten (under Defense-Economic Unit 720), who is also a daughter of a martyr. These activities show the unit’s principle of “When drinking water, remember its source.”
Accompanying locals to build new life
In July, Defense-Economic Unit 720 continued to support production and infrastructure development. Technical officers directly instructed locals on pruning, fertilizing, latex tapping, and pest control in coffee and rubber plantations, helping them apply science and technology to boost yields.
On the inter-commune road from National Highway 14 to Quang Tan commune, the unit mobilized hundreds of workdays and machinery to repair over 10km of roads and clear drainage ditches, facilitating travel and agricultural transport during the rainy season.
Facing a complex dengue fever outbreak in Quang Tan commune, Defense-Economic Unit 720 coordinated with local authorities and medical staff to step up public awareness campaigns. Officers and soldiers visited residential areas to instruct on disease prevention, organized clean-ups, cleared bushes, unblocked drains, and sprayed mosquito repellents.

Furthermore, the unit pro-actively inspected reservoirs, dams, and canal systems for disaster prevention. The unit’s youths also organized beneficial summer activities for children, including art exchanges, folk games, and drowning prevention skills training.
Consolidating “people’s heart posture”
Senior Colonel Doan Manh Nghia, Second-in-Command of Defense-Economic Unit 720, affirmed that caring for ethnic minorities is a key mission. These activities aim to improve people’s lives, strengthen great national unity, and enhance locals’ trust in the Party, State, and military.
Giang Chau village patriarch Giang A Lu shared that for many years, the troops have always stood by the locals, from building roads and supporting production to caring for policy families, becoming as close as family members. Giang Thi Do, a citizen from the village, also expressed that gifts from the “zero-VND booth” are a great encouragement for locals to focus on their work.
In the Central Highlands, practical deeds of Defense-Economic Unit 720 not only tighten military-civilian ties, but also promote the image of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, together with local residents to build a stable and prosperous region.
