According to Commanding Officer of the Dien Bien provincial Military Command Senior Colonel Le Van Son, when reported about the fire, the unit directed the Military Command of Tua Chua district to advise local authorities to mobilize forces to stamp out the fire.

Despite difficult terrain, harsh weather conditions, and strong wind, forces promptly established firebreaks to prevent the fire from the spreading. Head of the Military Command of Tua Chua district Lieutenant Colonel Do Tuan Viet said that by 3:45p.m. on April 4th, the fire was basically put under control.
