Nearly 4,000 troops mobilized to assist flood-hit victims
PANO - Military Regions 2 and 4 on September 3 mobilized 527 soldiers, 3,451 militiamen and 35 vehicles to support people in the provinces of Son La, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, which were badly affected by torrential rains, floods and landslides, according to the Search and Rescue Department under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army.
In Son La, the forces cleared off mud and tidied up the environment at eight schools in five districts and five road sections.

In Cam Thuy and Thach Thanh districts of Thanh Hoa province, the armed forces assisted locals in cleaning five schools, 70 houses, 500 meters of roads, cleared 350 cubic meters of soil and rocks, sprayed disinfectants on an area of 80,000 sq.m and at 50 wells, and provided locals with Cloramin B, 10kg of alum and 2,000kg of instant noodles.
Meanwhile, in Ky Son district, Nghe An province, the forces cleaned up three schools in preparation for the new academic year.
Reportedly, the ongoing floods and landslides in Son La, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An have left 13 dead and 3 missing, destroyed 364 houses, killed thousands of cattle and poultry, damaged 6,523ha of rice and 963ha of aquatic farm, and caused traffic congestion in some road sections crossing these provinces and on local roads.
So far, sections of the national highways in Son La, Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Dien Bien and Thanh Hoa have returned to normal, but many provincial and district roads have still been blocked.
