The event was in response to the Action Month for Environment and the Vietnam Family Day.

According to Senior Colonel Tran Viet Nam, head of the board, the program aimed to provide cadres, Youth Union members, and youths with the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and laws on national sovereignty over sea and islands; raise their awareness of the role and strategic position of the sea and islands; enhance the national unity strength and firmly safeguard national sovereignty. The event also targeted to arouse patriotic traditions, national pride, solidarity, vanguard and creative spirit of Youth Union cadres and members, and youths as well as to affirm patriotism, enthusiasm and determination of the youth in the efforts to defend national maritime sovereignty.

Senior Colonel Tran Viet Nang and Naval Senior Captain Vu Huu Kiem present gifts to policy beneficiary families, disadvantaged households, needy fishermen in the locality where Brigade 170 of Naval Region 1 is stationed.

In this program, many meaningful activities took place, such as cultural, artistic, sporting exchange; dissemination of information about national sea and islands; collection of waste in beaches; visits and gift presentations to local policy beneficiaries, disadvantaged families, poor students with good studying results, needy fishermen, and families of needy servicemen of Brigade 170.

Other activities included presentation of national flags, life jackets, lifebuoys to fishermen going offshore for fishing, launching of a painting contest named “I love the national sea and islands,” and a mobile exhibition entitled “Sea, islands, sacred national sovereignty.”

Gifts presented to needy students with good academic records

Addressing the event, Naval Senior Captain Vu Huu Kiem, Deputy Political Commissar of Naval Region, 1 emphasized that over the past years, many practical and significant programs which military youths pro-actively participate in have been organized to tap youths’ potential and creativity and received material and spiritual support from society.

The official recalled such programs as “Fathers on islands - Children at home with friends,” “Care for troops’ families - Firm stance for sea and islands,” “Border spring - Island Tet (lunar New Year),” during which hundreds of scholarships and thousands of gifts were presented to the needy.
