In Dispatch No. 45 to relevant units, the ministry asked the commands of Military Region 4 and 5, the Naval Service, the Vietnam Coast Guard, and the Border Guard to quickly deploy forces and vehicles to national disaster-affected localities to help victims surmount the disaster’s consequences.
The committee also ordered its affiliated agencies in the localities from Quang Binh to Phu Yen provinces to collaborate with relevant ministries and sectors to intensify relief activities.
Previously, on December 8 and 9, downpours occuring along provinces of the coastal central region raised the water level 3 to 5 meters in local rivers above the normal level. Thus, the local units were asked to closely collaborate with other forces to mobilize troops and vehicles to cope with possible flashflood and landslides in mountainous areas, and floods in urban areas.
Particularly, the Military Region 5 (MR 5) Command required its troops to maintain close watch and regularly update flooding developments and be ready to assist locals. Its relevant units were requested to ensure safety for stores and barracks, recheck crucial positions, and to be ready to evacuate people to safer places.
To avoid human losses, the Da Nang Municipal Military Command and local armed forces on December 9 evacuated 200 households in Hoa Tho Ward of Cam Le district to safe places.
* The recent downpours also inundated over 200 houses and left two people missing in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province.
The Provincial Military Command mobilized hundreds of troops and militiamen to search and rescue victims as well as evacuated people in dangerous areas to safe places. One missing person was found at 11:00 pm on December 8.
On the morning of December 9, the unit continued to mobilize 220 troops and 40 militiamen to continue the search for the remaining victim.
The local authorities also handed over VND 5 million to each family with dead people and help them bury the deceased.
