During the program, participants were  informed of the importance of the Vietnamese sea and islands in the cause of national construction and protection; the Party’s viewpoints and guidelines, State’s policies and laws on protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands in the current context; basic knowledge related to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982; the Vietnam Sea Law, Vietnam Coast Guard Law; and illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention.

Presenting gifts to policy households and fishermen in Can Thanh townlet and Long Hoa commune

On the occasion, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, in coordination with the local authorities, offered 80 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to policy household and needy fishermen in Can Thanh townlet, Long Hoa commune, Can Gio district.

During the event, the unit and the Labor Newspaper also handed over 2,500 national flags to fishermen. In Thanh An island commune, the unit presented 50 gifts to policy households and needy fishermen.

This was the fourth time the program was held in Can Gio district. It showed the responsibility and care of the coast guard force to policy households, ethnic minority people, fishermen, and needy students.

Distributing leaflets to the locals

The program contributed to tightening military-civilian ties, promoting patriotism and boosting solidarity between Coast Guard Region 3 and people in Can Gio district. It also helped the fishermen both develop economy and contribute to protecting national sovereignty over sea and islands.
