Children playing in La U Co satellite campus |
La U Co village is located in a remote, mountainous area where steep, rocky roads become hazardous during the rainy season. Local livelihoods depend on agriculture, and limited economic conditions have long hindered early childhood education. For years, the village kindergarten operated in temporary prefabricated classrooms built in 2018. Over time, harsh weather caused the facilities to deteriorate, with leaking roofs and warped walls posing safety risks to nearly 45 preschoolers.

Leaders of the Lai Chau Provincial Border Guard Command visit and encourage the school’s teachers. |
Teacher Du Thi Nhieu recalled that during heavy rains, water seeped into classrooms, forcing teachers to wipe floors while conducting lessons. In winter, cold winds penetrated gaps in the walls, making the environment extremely uncomfortable. Teachers also worked in makeshift corners with a near absence of educational equipment.
Recognizing the urgent need for a safer environment, the Lai Chau Provincial Border Guard Command coordinated with local authorities to build a new school. With an investment of approximately VND 4.3 billion funded by various donors, construction began in October 2025 and was completed in January 2026.

Lai Chau’s border guard troops complete the perimeter wall of the La U Co satellite campus. |
The new campus features two spacious classrooms, a functional activity room, enclosed sanitation, and a concreted playground. The facility is fully equipped with desks, chairs, and learning materials. Despite the challenging terrain, officers and soldiers from the Lai Chau Provincial Border Guard, the provincial Public Security, and Ka Lang Border Post contributed nearly 5,000 labor days to ensure the project stayed on schedule.
Senior Colonel Dao Quang Hong, Head of Ka Lang Border Post, affirmed that the project exemplifies military-civilian unity. For the community, the new school offers a safe, engaging space for children and better working conditions for educators. "With the new classrooms, we feel more secure. This is a great source of encouragement for highland teachers," said teacher Du Thi Nhieu.
