He was subsequently transferred to An Bang island infirmary in Truong Sa district, Khanh Hoa province. Here, doctors found out that the patient suffered from symptoms of meningitis.
Following the Defense Ministry’s directive, at 3:00 p.m. on January 3, Corps 18’s helicopter took off from the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The mission was led by Colonel Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the Training Center of the Corps, as the pilot-in-command. Accompanying the crew was an air medical evacuation team from Military Hospital 175, headed by Captain, Doctor Ta Van Bach.
By 7:30 p.m. the same day, the rescue team reached the patient on An Bang Island. At the time, the patient was in a critical condition, exhibiting altered consciousness, eye opening without interaction, severe agitation, a high fever of 39 degrees Celsius, and clear signs of meningitis. The medical team promptly performed an on-site assessment, provided first aid, and prepared the patient for air transport.
Despite the long flight duration, harsh weather conditions, and challenges of night flying, the crew of Corps 18 and the air medical evacuation team from Military Hospital 175 successfully transported the patient to the mainland.
Upon arrival, the patient was admitted to the hospital’s Emergency Department, where specialized tests were conducted, followed by a hospital-wide consultation. A definitive diagnosis was promptly established, allowing timely and intensive treatment for the patient.
