Distressed fishermen saved at sea
PANO – Soldiers on Song Tu Tay (Southwest Cay) Island of Vietnam’s Truong Sa archipelago have received and assisted six fishermen on a troubled trawler.
On March 15, a fisherman on trawler QNg-94936TS broke his right arm while fishing around 40 nautical miles from the island.

On its way to the island seeking urgent treatment for the crewmember, the vessel was caught in a shallows 25 nautical miles from the island.
The island's troops were sent to the scene to transfer the patient to their infirmary.
At the same time, the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command requested other near-by ships to tow the QNg-94936TS with its five crewmembers onboard. Unfortunately, the fishing boat sank later that night.
Fortuitously, another trawler QNg-98183TS arrived in good time and rescued all five men onboard and brought all of them to the island infirmary where they are now recovering.
