Knowing that medical doctors of the Coast Guard Region 3 would provide free health check-ups and medicines, a large number of local residents in Binh Dai district arrived at the gathering place to have their health checked. Mrs. Le Thi Tiep from Dai Hoa Loc commune in Binh Dai district said that she was satisfied with the wholehearted care of the doctors.

In the framework of the program, the unit also offered incense to pay tribute to war martyrs at a cemetery in Binh Dai district, and inquired after and presented gifts to policy households.

Especially, the coast guards disseminated information about laws on sea and islands, and function of the Vietnam Coast Guard, while mobilizing fishermen to prevent illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, to name but a few.

After six years of implementation of the “Coast guards stand side by side with fishermen” program, the Coast Guard Region 3 disseminated information to 135,000 people, distributed more than 120,000 leaflets, handed over nearly 11,000 gifts and 30,000 national flags, and provided free health check-ups to more than 3,000 policy households, among others. Notably, the unit has held the “I love my national sea and islands” program 14 times, attracting the participation of more than 15,000 students.

Via these practical activities, Coast Guard Region 3 helped fishermen in Ben Tre in particular and fishermen nationwide in general, grasp information about the national sea and islands and measures to prevent IUU fishing, thereby raising their awareness of law observance.
