Colonel Pham Xuan Do, Second-in-Command and Chief of Staff of the Binh Thuan provincial Border Guard Command, said that Binh Thuan waters are often affected by unusual weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, 4-6m high waves, potentially causing ship and boat accidents at sea.

Accompanying local fishermen, the command has directed its affiliated units to boost information dissemination to raise fishermen’s awareness of law enforcement, and disaster prevention and control. Border guards have also reviewed, supplemented, and completed search and rescue plans, and practiced scenarios. They have maintained duty regulations around the clock, and worked closely with other relevant forces to prepare forces and vehicles for missions on request. Notably, the command’s units have given timely assistance to needy fishermen. Reportedly, since early this year, the provincial border guard command has sent 25 ships with over 200 troops to rescue 21 troubled fishermen at sea.
