Earlier, at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, while conducting patrols in the waters off Phu Quy, Binh Thuan Province, Coast Guard Ship 6008 received an order from the Coast Guard Region 3 Command to rescue the distressed fishing vessels numbered KH-91656TS and KH-96417TS, located about 22 nautical miles Southeast of Phu Quy Island.

At 9:30 p.m. on December 29, Coast Guard Ship 6008 arrived at the distressed vessels’ location. The area experienced winds at level 6, gusts at level 7, with rough seas. Upon approaching the KH-91656TS, the coast guard ship towed the vessel back to Phu Quy Island.

By 4:00 p.m. on December 30, Coast Guard Ship 6008 successfully towed the KH-91656TS to Phu Quy Island and handed it over to the border guard force at Phu Quy Port Border Gate.

Fishing vessel KH-91656TS, with 10 crew members on board, left Hon Ro Port in Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa Province) on December 26 for fishing.

At 6:00 p.m. on December 28, it encountered engine trouble and gearbox damage while fishing. The crew tried to repair but were unsuccessful. The captain then contacted fishing vessel KH-96417TS, captained by Tran Van Thua (residing in Vinh Luong ward, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa), for assistance in towing the distressed vessel back to Phu Quy Port.

By 12:00 p.m. on December 29, while towing Vessel KH-91656TS about 22 nautical miles off Southeast of Phu Quy Island, Fishing vessel KH-96417TS also encountered gearbox issues and could not move.

Currently, relevant forces are continuing efforts to tow Vessel KH-96417TS back to Phu Quy Island.
