Coast Guard Region 2 stands by fishermen in Nhon Chau island commune
PANO - The Coast Guard Region 2 Command and the Binh Dinh provincial authorities co-held a program entitled “Coast guards stand side by side with fishermen” in Nhon Chau commune, Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh on July 4-5.
This year’s program comprised a variety of meaningful and practical activities, including offering incense at Nhon Chau commune War Cemetery, conducting a program titled “Joining hands to clean up marine environment,” popularizing information about illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing prevention among fishermen, organizing an artistic program and the “I love national sea and islands” contest, and providing free health check-ups and medicines for more than 100 islanders.
On the occasion, the organizing panel, sponsoring enterprises, and units presented 80 gifts, worth VND 1 million each, to policy beneficiaries and needy fishermen; granted 82 scholarships and 10 bicycles to their children who are students with good academic results; and handed over 10,000 national flags, 20 medical bags, 20 eco-friendly trash cans, and others to fishermen and islanders.
According to Senior Colonel Tran Hong Que, Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 2, the “Coast guards stand side by side with fishermen” program aimed to promote the power of the whole political system in organizing programs, socio-economic development plans; raise the awareness of Nhon Chau commune’s Party Committee, authority, Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations of mass mobilization work.
Meanwhile, the program contributed to educating local people of patriotism and love for national sea and islands and raising their responsibilities for the protection of national sovereignty over sea and islands.
