Early in one morning, water rice fields at the foot of Ruc Lan Mountain in Thuong Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh province were bustling with voices and laughter of officers and soldiers of Ca Xeng Border Post under the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command and the Ruc ethnic people who were planting rice seedlings together.

Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of Mo O O O village in Thuong Hoa commune Cao Xuan Long excitedly said that the rice fields there were all guided and assisted in growing and caring for by officers and soldiers from the border post. “This crop will certainly be a great success. The life of the people of Mo O O O and other villages will be more prosperous,” the official said.
With the determination to support the Ruc ethnic people to settle down and build a prosperous life, in 2010, Ca Xeng Border Post made suggestions to higher levels, and joined hands with local people in launching various effective mass mobilization models to help them build a new life at the foot of Ruc Lan Mountain.
With the highest sense of determination and responsibility, the post’s border guards guided them on how to grow rice and other agricultural products, develop household economy, and raise domestic animals. They even gave them instructions on trading farm produce. As a result, the Ruc people have escaped from all-year-round hunger and enjoyed better living conditions.
Last year, Ca Xeng Border Post presented local policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged households with 285 gifts, 36 pairs of banh chung (sticky rice cakes) and medicines with a total value of VND 235 million, presented 100 gifts to local children on International Children’s Day, and more gifts to 18 wounded soldiers and martyrs’ families. Its officers and soldiers also contributed working days to taking care of and harvesting rice for locals in the Summer-fall crop 2023 and Winter-spring crop 2023-2024 as well as looking after hemp trees.
According to Dinh Thanh Van, Secretary of Thuong Hoa commune’s Party Committee, the officers and soldiers of the border post are truly a fulcrum for the Ruc ethnic people.
The official added that alongside helping locals in economic development, they have raised fund to light up 14 villages in Huong Hoa and Hoa Son communes in Minh Hoa district, build bridges and radio systems, thereby improving locals’ spiritual and material life. “Local people are grateful to the border guards,” official Van said.
