Border guards save two distressed fishermen
PANO - Ship BP.08-12-02 of Flotilla 2 of the Da Nang Border Guard Command successfully took two distressed fishermen ashore on the evening of October 9.
Earlier, at 11:30 the same day, the Son Tra Border Post of the Da Nang Border Guard Command received news that fisherman Le My, born in 1962, and his son steered trawler DNa 91066 from wharf CT.15 to Tho Quang fishing port in Son Tra district to avoid strong winds.
However, off Son Tra cape, the trawler’s engine broke down and the two fishermen failed to fix it. Due to bad weather, the trawler went adrift and was about to sink. The fishermen had to send a mayday signal.
Getting the news, the Da Nang Border Guard Command directed Flotilla 2 to send ship BP.08-12-02 and 10 troops to the scene for the rescue mission. After three hours, the ship approached the troubled trawler around Mui Den and took the two fishermen ashore safely.
Unfortunately, due to strong winds and high waves, trawler DNa 91066 sank on the way back to shore.
