Legal education sessions, gifts, and new houses built all reflect the dedication of border guard soldiers to ensuring peace and stability for residents living along the sea border. These efforts have strengthened the connection between the military and the people, reinforcing a firm “people’s heart posture” and contributing to the protection of sovereignty and security in Vietnam’s southernmost waters.
Spreading effective mass mobilization models
During a visit to Dat Moi commune, Lieutenant Colonel Lam Huy Vu, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the Port Border Gate of Nam Can Border Post, noted that in 2025 the unit continues to maintain and expand several models to raise legal awareness among students and coastal residents, build safer learning environments, and support disadvantaged children in continuing their education. The mobile loudspeaker system also serves as a spiritual anchor for fishermen embarking on offshore journeys.

Over the past year, the border post has cooperated with local agencies and organizations to hold eight legal communication sessions with a total of 1,650 participants. These sessions encouraged compliance with Party’s guidelines and State’s laws and policies, particularly the Law on Vietnam Border Guard and regulations on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, while also promoting safety at sea.
The unit’s commitment to “staying close to the area and close to the people” is especially evident in its “Border spring - Warming the hearts of coastal communities” program. In difficult areas, soldiers’ support was even more meaningful. During the program, the unit provided VND 4.5 million to three disadvantaged students, offered free medical examinations and medicines to 30 residents, gave 60 gift packages to policy families, and donated 1,200 notebooks to local schools. Soldiers also prepared 50 meals and 150 “banh tet” (cylindrical sticky rice cakes) for low-income households and children. The total funding for the program reached nearly VND 90 million, reflecting sincere support for residents ahead of the Lunar New Year.
The Port Border Gate of Nam Can also advised local authorities on organizing activities such as free medical checkups, free haircuts, a “zero-cost” stall, traditional cake stands, and folk games. These events created a vibrant festive atmosphere that attracted enthusiastic participation.
Joining hands to support locals with their livelihoods
Along the river channels and coastal waterways of the southernmost region, where each seasonal tide brings new concerns, the timely presence of border guard soldiers provides reassurance to local residents. When storms damage roofs or unexpected fires destroy property, the border gate’s officers and soldiers quickly arrive to help rebuild houses, providing not only shelter but also renewed hope for families striving to maintain their livelihoods on land and at sea.
In 2025, the border post has also mobilized organizations and individuals to build houses for poor households in Dat Moi commune. These sturdy new houses offer residents stable accommodation and demonstrate the border guards’ commitment to leaving no one behind.
Inside his newly built house, 70-year-old Le Minh Hung of Truong Duc hamlet expressed deep gratitude to the unit’s officers and soldiers. He said the house not only protects his family from the elements but also strengthens their determination to rise above difficulties. “We will never forget this kindness,” he shared.
During special occasions such as the Day of Wounded Soldiers and Martyrs (27 July), the August Revolution, and National Day (2 September), the presence of the Port Border Gate of Nam Can’s soldiers is a familiar sight along the coastal roads. They worked with local youths to clean the environment, clear over four kilometers of village roads, and support the youth month campaign. According to Nguyen Phuong Dong, Party Secretary of Dat Moi commune, these activities have strengthened movements such as eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses and supporting new rural development. They help consolidate the local political foundation and build consensus among the people, whose trust in border guards continues to grow.
Safeguarding security along sea border
Beyond their mass mobilization efforts, the Port Border Gate of Nam Can Border Post plays a core role in maintaining sovereignty and security along the sea border. According to Lt. Col. Lam Huy Vu, although the overall situation in 2025 has so far been stable, crime, natural disasters, erosion, and fires remain unpredictable. To respond effectively, the unit’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command consistently align their work with security tasks, coordinate closely with local authorities, and build a firm all-people’s border defense posture.
Offshore patrols and nighttime inspections at the port border gate have become protective shields for Ca Mau’s maritime area. The combination of professional duties and effective mass mobilization has strengthened the “people’s heart posture,” the most important shield in safeguarding the border.

Entering a period expected to bring extreme weather, high tides, and more complex criminal activities near the Lunar New Year, the unit remains committed to implementing comprehensive measures to protect sovereignty, strengthen inter-agency coordination, mobilize public participation, and maintain political security and social order. Improving local livelihoods also remains central to their work. For the soldiers stationed at Nam Can, safeguarding sovereignty also means preserving the trust of the people.
The story of “mass mobilization” at the Port Border Gate of Nam Can Border Post in 2025 is a clear reflection of the motto “close to the people, understand the people, and serve the people.” Each project and gift, though small, carries profound sincerity and contributes to the transformation of this southernmost land. Through these efforts, the foundation of all-people national defense and all-people border defense continues to grow stronger, helping protect the nation’s farthest frontiers.
