PANO - Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh, the Deputy-Defence Minister, received a delegation from the UK Royal Academy of Defence Studies, led by Major-General Andrew Charles Peter Kennett, the Academy’s Deputy-Director on May 22nd in Hanoi.

Vietnam and UK boost defence cooperation

On behalf of the Defence Ministry of Vietnam, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh hailed and affirmed the guest’s visit to Vietnam to contributed to promoting the friendship, mutual understanding as well as defence cooperation between Vietnam and the UK.

During the reception, Senior Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh briefed the guest on Vietnam’s policies of external affairs and defence and emphasised Vietnam’s policy of independence, self-reliance, multi-lateralisation, diversification and activeness in international integration and peace and self-defence policy of defence.

He said that, the relationship between the two countries has been developing fruitfully in fields of economics, trade, defence, security, culture and education. Especially, in 2010, the two governments agreed to lift their relations to strategic partnership level and in 2011, the two countries’ Defence Ministries signed an MoU on bilateral defence cooperation.

For his part, Major-General Kennett thanked the hosts for their warm welcome.and expressed his deep impressions on a beautiful and hospitable Vietnam and believed that the visit would gain good results.
