Despite home-sickness whenever New Year comes, those troops have well executed their duties.
Private Nguyen Ngoc Phu from Artillery Battery 2 of Company 4 said that defending the island means defending his family. Meanwhile, Corporal Nguyen Ngoc Hoang, Chief of Section 6, Platoon 2 Company 1 volunteered to be on guard during the New Year holiday so that some of his comrades could go home to enjoy the New Year with their families. Hoang said, “Combat readiness and patrol duty are the most important tasks.”
While being on the New Year duty, Hoang joined other comrades to tow a distressed trawler near Trieu Duong Bay ashore safely.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Vu Tho Sinh, Commander of the Phu Quy district Military Command, together with boosting training and combat readiness to protect national seas and islands, the unit has drawn up various plans on search and rescue and firefighting, and coordinated closely with relevant forces to readily deal with any possible problems and contingencies.
